Vincent Speaks Oracle Deck and Intuitive Readings

Tarot Re-Imagined: The Two of Cups

When I think of two cups, I think of sitting with a friend (or my wife) over a cup of coffee. For me, coffee is the quintessential social drink.

Sure, you can (and probably do) drink coffee while driving in your car or sitting at work.

But for me there’s nothing like a fresh cup of coffee to set the mood for some wonderful conversation (think Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee).

Elaboration

When my wife and I met (and eventually married) she didn’t drink coffee or tea. But once we moved into our “dream house” she decided to start drinking coffee with me. In the morning we sit in our family room (without the TV on) while the kids got ready for school upstairs and we talk. On her days off (and since I work from home) we enjoy an afternoon coffee in the same family room.

So for me, the two of cups represents this “meeting of the mind and hearts” if you will.

Now, should you find yourself in a local coffee shop you’ll most likely see most people enjoying free wifi while on their computer or tablet lost in work, study or simply checking their social media feeds. But sprinkled in the mix you’ll also find couples who are meeting for business reasons.

In fact, over the years I’ve had hundreds of client meetings in diner’s and coffee shops (including Starbucks) all across Connecticut and Upstate New York. And each time the drink of choice was coffee while I met with a potential client to discuss their needs and how I might be able to help them generate more business and make more money.

In the traditional Rider-Waite tarot deck a man and a woman meet face to face with cups in hand. Above them is a winged lion’s head and a two-snake caduceus design, an ancient symbol representing trade, negotiation, balance, duality (union of opposites), proper moral conduct, protection and cosmic energy.

Poem

it’s not about (the two of cups)

it’s not about being right
from your opposite wrong

or the right to become right
in the first place (at all)

it’s not about keeping score
or deciding who’s to blame

or winning another argument
point by point (yet again)

at best i’m just a mirror
which helps to lead within

lighting a deeper view of self
before you even had a name

where truth persists far beyond
a word used to hurt or bind

so you can finally realize how
we’re really all the same.
