Reflection:
Every beginning has its ending.
If you pay attention to nature you’ll see this valuable lesson play itself out day after day. Nothing remains stagnant. The weather changes and seasons change. Cycles begin and come to their natural ending, only to usher in a new cycle.
And the simple fact of the matter is that living things are either growing or they are slowly decaying and dying. At the same time, however, we desire stability.
We don’t just want things to stay the same, many feel a deep seated need for things to remain exactly the way they are. This inward craving is probably best expressed by the saying “better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.”
And such is the root of our inner conflict.
Outwardly we experience constant change while inwardly we desire permanence. Security. Hence the desire or drive to remember, to memorialize the past, to cling to what has, in truth, already died and passed away.
The Headstone comes to you today to remind you of this one fundamental fact: that nothing lasts forever in exactly the same way. Such is the cycle of life. So how do you honor that which has come to its natural ending?
Keep in mind that for every ending (no matter how painful) there is always a new beginning.
“Some things happen for a reason, others just come with the season.”

- What might be coming to an end in your life?
- Do you find it easy or challenging to say goodbye?

- Is there some part of your life or a memory that you need to let go of, say goodbye to, or surrender?
