There are a handful of moments in our life when we stand on the brink of a major decision.
If you’ve seen Cast Away think of Tom Hank’s character at the end of the movie. Questions like “which path do I take?” or “where do I go from here?” are not reducible to map coordinates, for the simple reason that these moments bring us face to face with what might be called “fate.”
The Crossroads isn’t about calculating which direction is “best” for you based on logic, or “reason” or some cost-benefit analysis. Rather, it’s about tuning into your “internal GPS” in order to feel your way to the “right” path or “best” decision based on your authentic, truest self.
The Crossroads comes to remind you that there’s more to this life than a career, or job title, or bank account. Standing at the Crossroads you might feel that whichever decision you choose the trajectory of your life will never be the same again.
And that’s a good thing. So choose wisely.
“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”
~ Robert Frost

Some questions to guide your meditation:
- Do you often find it difficult being decisive or making a decision?
- Do you make decisions based on pleasing others, or on what brings you the most joy?
- If you’re struggling with a big decision right now, what might be the underlying reason?
- When confronted with a number of opportunities or options, how do you typically choose which one to pursue?
