Reflection:
When talking about archetypes it’s important to understand that Energy is not the same as (or equivalent to) gender.
It’s important to note that “traditional” gender roles have their “grounding” in history and anthropology. In primitive societies men ventured far from the clan or tribe in order to hunt for food while women stayed near the hearth to “gather” and care for children.
Seen through this lens, gender roles were based primarily on function, on “knowing your place” and “doing your job” for the greater good of the community.
The primary reason for this division of labor (stretching back eons into our prehistory) was simple — survival of the tribe depended upon safe-guarding the lives of women because only they could bring forth new life.
In turn, these roles were reinforced by rites of passage ceremonies which supported this “worldview” by marking the symbolic passage from childhood to adulthood as boys transitioned from the “world of women” (interior space) to the “world of men” (exterior space).
But knowing why the world was divided this way in the past does nothing for us today. For the simple fact of the matter is this — maintaining or upholding the status quo is nothing more than a glorification of a past way of doing things which no longer serves (and hasn’t for quite a long time).
The tide is turning.
Sadly, sometimes these “growing pains” hurt or shake us up. And the pace of change in our life or in our world can feel slow. Sometimes painfully so. Yet here we are… at an historical crossroads.
Given this backdrop, Yang energy comes before you
today to remind you of a central and important truth — empowerment and “taking action” are not gender specific. Now is the time for you to act, to lead, to make a stand or lend support to someone physically, emotionally, or spiritually.
But this message also comes to you with a word of caution.
As power dynamics shift keep in mind the age-old adage that “power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” No one is immune to the seductive “dark side” of unbridled leadership and unrestrained power. So exercise your leadership wisely, and with compassion.

Some questions to guide your meditation:
- Are you more comfortable taking the lead or following others?
- Does a new or recent situation call for a strategic approach?
- Is a current problem challenging your level of determination to follow through to the end?
- If you feel compelled to act or take a stand, what might be holding you back from getting started?
