Reflection:
A Tree might be the best example from nature of persistence in the face of constant change. They bear silent witness to solid endurance through the slow roll of years season into season.
And yet, there’s also something magical about a Tree.
With branches reaching up to heaven it seems to bridge Earth and Sky, providing welcome shelter for birds and endless adventure for boys and girls brave enough to climb their sturdy limbs.
And on a hot summer day is there a better way to spend your time than resting in its shade?
The Tree stands before you to remind you that emotional and spiritual well-being can only occur when you’re rooted in “soil” that’s right for you. And their ability to “bend but not break” teaches you that you can truly weather any storm when firmly planted in “solid” ground.
So, on what “ground” do you stand?
Emotional and spiritual growth is not found by remaining “stuck” in a past which no longer serves (and which is, essentially, dead and buried). Rather, your challenge and opportunity is to face continual change head on as life unfolds moment by moment in real time around you. Only then can you experience real growth by acknowledging the “roots” of your past while embracing with open arms whatever the future is bringing your way.
Light aspect:
- Flexibility
- Growth
- Health
- Patience
- Refuge
Shadow aspect:
- Isolation
- Stubbornness
- Stuck in the past
Some questions to guide your meditation:
- On what “chosen” ground do you stand?
- Do you find it difficult to adapt to change?
- What might you still be clinging to from your past?
- What can you do to be better prepared to face a new situation head on?
