The Ring, an ornate or simple circle of precious metal without beginning or end. Perhaps this “timeless” combination of material and shape is why it has long symbolized oaths, promises, devotion and duty.
A Ring is a tangible reminder of a promise worn on the body — of a “hand given in marriage.” It’s a visible representation of a link or connection between two people, or of a person to his or her ideal. The Ring, then, stands as the physical embodiment of an oath and a sign that one will remain faithful to his or her promise without end.
But there is another aspect of Rings to consider.
For centuries Rings were worn by the nobility not so much as a visible display of their wealth, but rather as a visible symbol of power and prestige. This gave rise to the traditional gesture of “kissing the ring” as a sign of submission, reverence and respect.
All of which underscores their fundamental symbolic expression — that of a promise.
The Ring comes to remind you of this one important lesson… be careful of how and with whom you make a promise or swear your allegiance. Promises are often easily made in a moment, but the consequences of your “yes” can be difficult to back out of once your promise has been given (and accepted). Remember, the ONE person to whom you should always remain faithful to is yourself.
So be alert before signing a contract or entering into an agreement with an organization or another person, lest you find yourself on the wrong end of a one-sided agreement. Remember, true self-love and self-care is NOT the same as being selfish.
Remember, you can only truly honor your agreements with others when they are based on self-respect.

Some questions to guide your meditation:
- In what specific ways do you make a promise to yourself?
- How well do you “keep you word” or honor your commitments?
- What challenges might you be experiencing with respect to your commitments?
- Are you currently thinking about a new commitment which presents you with an uncertain future?
- Do you feel “stuck in a rut” or “endless loop” and can’t seem to break the cycle?
