Reflection:
A long time ago the fastest and easiest way to travel long distances was by Boat. Provided, of course, that seas were calm and no storms were brewing on the horizon.
And this remained true for centuries.
Today, however, Boats might conjure up images of taking a Caribbean cruise or romantic gondola ride along the historic canals of Venice.
Regardless of how or why you choose to head out over the open waters, it’s easy to forget about the murky depths yawning just below your keel. And yet, should winds pick up and waves start to heave you can find yourself face to face with age-old fears. For example, ancient mariners tossed about in heavy seas often threw cargo and “dead weight” overboard in a last ditch effort to save themselves.
Which begs two questions — how prepared are you for the coming voyage? And what baggage might you need to release prior to or during your adventure?
The journey you’re about to embark upon could be a literal, physical one. But since water has long symbolized our emotional depths you could be on the brink of setting out on a new, “inner” emotional path.
Regardless of the journey you’re about to “set sail” on, the Boat comes to remind you that maintaining your balance when faced with the ever-changing (and sometimes stormy) tides of time is key for your emotional well-being.
Ask yourself… are you embarking on a journey to take a much needed vacation from the everyday stresses of life? Or are you running from something? Is there some issue or person in your life which you need to move away from, or has a once close person or situation become something which now feels far away?
Understanding your motives for undertaking a journey and plumbing the depths of your inner “being” is a critical component on the never-ending journey of self-discovery.
