I think one of the best words to describe Birds is “joyful.” You can see this expressed in their movements and hear it during early mornings when their calls begin to fill the air.
But Birds also represent a longed-for freedom.
After all, they seem to effortlessly fly from place to place and often sail on warm currents of air high above the ground and all our “earthly concerns.”
Perhaps this is the reason why Birds have long been viewed as Spiritual Messengers, since they move easily between the two different “worlds” of Earth and Air.
But there’s something else you can notice about Birds. They never seem to remain in the same place very long.
They are a study of continual movement, flitting from one place to another in short order. And if you watch them closely you’ll notice just how agile they are when it comes to flying through twigs or tangles of thick underbrush. Even at high speeds they are able dodge branches only to pull up suddenly and expertly land on the smallest of perches.
All of this underscores the message which Birds have come to deliver to you… that in today’s world it’s easy to get distracted by the “white noise” which seems to perpetually surround us. From text messages and social media alerts to a thousand errands and distractions in between, it’s too easy to lose sight of the present moment.
Be mindful that activity devoid of attention rarely (if ever) leads to meaningful or lasting results.
Stay open and flexible to the possibilities opening up all around you. And when it’s time to make a move do so boldly and swiftly knowing that you are being guided by Spirit.
