Planting and maintaining a Garden takes a lot of work.
It requires watchfulness and daily effort to cultivate a Garden, to ensure that what you want to flourish grows while making sure that unwanted pests and weeds don’t undermine all your efforts.
Of course, no two Gardens are exactly alike.
Some Gardens are practical. People who grow vegetables do so to supplement their diet while sharing with others, either as a hobby or side-business to sell what they grow.
As such, access to most vegetable Gardens tends to be restricted.
But flower Gardens are different. They serve no ulterior motive or purpose except to transform the landscape into something breathtaking and beautiful. What’s more, they are generally created in order to be experienced — by transforming public places into spaces that people can relax in while communing with nature.
Today the Garden blooms before you to share this essential truth… that a happy life is one lived in communion with others. After all, we live in a world populated with people, things and ideas. And it is through the mirror of relationship that we can best “see” ourselves.
Like the scent of a flower, your Love transforms “exterior” spaces while you are being transformed through loving communion with others. There is a constant, ongoing ebb and flow between your “self” and your “world,” so be mindful of what you choose to cultivate through word and deed lest some unwanted “weeds” take root.
“Love is like a beautiful flower which I may not touch, but whose fragrance makes the garden a place of delight just the same.”
~ Helen Keller
Some questions to guide your meditation:
- What “seeds” are you currently planting?
- How often do you “tend” to your social commitments?
- Why do you engage in some activities while avoiding others?
- How will the current project you’re working on impact others long term?
