If you’ve ever seen a Bear up close the first thing you probably noticed was its sheer size and obvious strength.
And if you were lucky enough to observe one as it walked past (as I did last Fall when a brown Bear crossed through my front yard) you might have noticed something else… a sure and steady patience embodied in its movements. Quite simply, Bears carry themselves with a quiet dignity.
Bears are solitary creatures, renowned for their independence, strength, courage and leadership. But there’s another important aspect to the Bear that just about everyone knows — a mother Bear will stop at nothing to protect her cubs from any perceived threat. In an instant her quiet, gentle demeanor is transformed into fearlessness and a ferocious determination to protect that which is most precious to her.
All of which underscores why the Bear crosses your path today — to remind you of your own inner strength. And to encourage you to believe in yourself.
Walking one’s spiritual path can often feel like a solitary journey which can be deeply demanding. It takes courage to continue along the way of self-discovery as you face your deepest, darkest and innermost fears. So let the Bear awaken in you that same fearlessness and rugged determination.
Just be mindful as you step more fully into your power to be patient with others, lest your inner strength becomes a force of intimidation or you start judging others harshly who don’t measure up to your newfound standards.
Some questions to guide your meditation:
- Do you enjoy taking the lead?
- Is some situation calling for you to be more assertive?
- What area(s) of your life challenge your self-confidence?
- Do you sometimes find it difficult to “stand up” for yourself?
